Custom fit blinds can be an elegant form of window covering, giving homeowners the choice of size, colour and length. However custom fittings can be expensive and for those looking for a design bargain, ready made blinds can be an affordable and practical option.

In some cases a prefabricated blind can be as much as half the price of an individually constructed window covering. But what is the true difference between the two, are custom blinds really worth the added outlay?

The first difference is size. Ready made blinds are typically manufactured to match the specifications of uniform sized windows. As modern windows are constructed to meet building specifications blind manufacturers have made blinds to meet these measurements.

The result is that if you home has modern windows it is likely you will find blinds to match the sizes. However, if you desire special design touches such as overlap, or floor to ceiling extension it is likely that custom built coverings are the best solution. That said with a little research it is possible to achieve a high design standard with prefabricated varieties.
