Honeycomb Cellular Shades 4 You
Honeycomb cellular shades derived its name from the hexagonal shape it forms when lowered, much like the cell forming a honeycomb. An air pocket is formed from the hexagonal cells, which functions as insulators. It also reduces sound, virtually eliminating noise coming out of the house as well as diminishing outside disturbance. Another advantage of its shape is its efficiency when pulled up as the hexagons just folds neatly and smartly. It is made of polyester and doesn’t fade in time.
The air pockets reduce heat coming in from the outside of the house as well as retaining coolness inside, much like a window with double panes. For houses with large windows, this can translate to lower costs for cooling the whole house.
Most honeycomb shades are translucent, allowing for adequate amount of light without the glare. However, there are also light-blocking models that provides total privacy to homeowners. It comes in different fabric types, suitable for every style of interior decoration and makes a beautiful sight even when the shades are closed.
Available choices are single-, double-, or triple-celled shades. Shades with triple cells may cost more yet gives the homeowners optimum insulation with the least amount of glare. There are also several choices for cell sizes, to allow homeowners flexibility in choosing the best shade for their windows.
Honeycomb shades are also made with safety in mind, particularly among children. It is flame-retardant and cordless models are available to avoid the risk of choking.
For maintenance, it only needs periodic wiping of the shades to keep it clean.
These shades are available in continuous cord loops and bottom-up/top-down options. Continuous cord loops allows for ease in handling the shades, raising it without any difficulty. The other option allows owners to lower the upper part of the shade, a novel concept that adds to the shades’ flexibility in terms of modifying the amount of light entering a room without compromising the privacy within. It is suitable for apartment dwellers who yearn to bask in sunlight while avoiding attention from neighbors. It can also be attached as door blinds where shades are adjusted at the top and attached at the bottom part.

Mini Blinds for Your Home
The Mini blinds or Venetian blinds did not originate from Venice, Italy as its name implies. Brought to Venice by Merchants traveling from the Far East, they became an instant hit in Venice and spread through many parts of Italy, Europe and other parts of the world.
Aesthetic sensibilities aside, Mini blinds or Venetian blinds are practical choices for homes. Mostly used in small windows, the mini-blinds offer all of the functionalities of the other blinds but at the fraction of the cost.
Since sunlight can damage wood furniture and other elements inside the home, using Venetian blinds and controlling the heat and sunlight coming through the windows not only makes people inside the room comfortable but also prevents furniture from being damaged by the sun.
Reliable, durable and easy to use, Mini Blinds are the perfect window screens for children’s bedrooms. Practical home owners may also opt to install these blinds in the kitchen, or family room. This type of blinds is also durable enough to install in pool rooms. Some blinds come in PVC slats but aluminum slats are more hard-wearing.
Because Mini blinds are made of PVC or painted aluminum slots, when it comes to color, there’s a wide range to choose from. There are neutral colors, pastels and even bold ones. You may choose blinds that match your walls, your furniture or even one that matches your beddings.
Mini blinds are among the easiest to install and often requires no professional assistance. They come with simple installation instructions and all one needs is an electric drill to properly install the Mini blinds.
These blinds are often found in even the simplest home shops so finding one for your home is quite easy. The most common Venetian blinds come in 19mm or 24 mm slats.
Cleaning is also a walk in the park with the mini blinds- regular dusting with a damp cloth or a feather-duster does the trick. Closing the blinds for cleaning should prevent the blinds from being bended or damaged.
Most merchants also offer mini-blinds online so searching for your perfect set should be easy.

Plantation Shutters
Plantation shutters are considered more contemporary than traditional shutters. While there is a growing demand for traditional shutters, modern homes are being built with large rooms using open windows. Plantation shutters are the perfect window covering to complement this type of architecture.
Plantation shutters are semi-opaque when the louvers are closed. This allows the home owner complete privacy, and an almost dark room. A minimal amount of direct sunlight will penetrate the narrow gaps along the edges of the shutter unit and between the louvers. The louvers can be rotated partially open to block direct sunlight, but allow enough light to brighten the room. This is a great way to protect furniture and carpet from fading over time. Fully open, plantation louvers provide great visibility and maximum light.
Plantation shutters are extremely versatile and can be used in a variety of environments. Dining rooms, living rooms, family rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, and bathrooms benefit from the use of plantation shutters.
Individual plantation shutter panels can usually span between 8 and 36 inches. Interior shutter panels are connected to make units to fit the window. The number of panels used depends on the width of the window. As a rule of thumb, we suggest dividing the shutter unit the same way your window is divided. So, if your opening is divided into three equal vertical sections, to use three plantation shutters across. Or, if your window is not divided into sections to use as few panels as allowable.
Do not confuse indoor plantation shutters with plantation blinds. Plantation blinds use cords to connect and rotate individual slats. Interior plantation shutters will make a wonderful addition to your home.

Types of Blinds
Shades and blinds are an excellent option to combat excess light filtering into any rooms of a house. There are various types of blinds available in the market as well as on the Net. There are four basic types of blinds, namely, PVC, composite, value and premium wood blinds. Depending on the décor of the house, people can opt for a particular type of blind.
Faux or PVC blinds are made of poly vinyl chloride, which could be either solid or foamed, as per requirement. They are known to be long lasting, can resist UV and moisture, and are very easy to clean. Their slats are very heavy, though. These blinds are cheap since the slats and other parts are made of PVC.
Composite blinds are a fairly recent entry into the market. The slats come in flat or elliptical shapes. The slat surface is generally poly-coated. The choice of colors is limited. Composite blinds are priced in the low- to mid-range. They are quite sturdy, and UV and water-resistant. They are less likely to rot and easier to clean. Composite blinds are lighter than PVC blinds, but heavier than the wood variety.
Value and premium wood blinds are made from Oriental hardwoods. The slats of premium wood blinds are made of American hardwoods such as basswood. Wood blinds are the most exclusive blinds a buyer can go in for. Wood blind slats are the lightest of all blinds and are the best bet for large windows.
Customers may choose blinds according to personal preference, for light-filtering, room darkening or simply as a part of elaborate interior decoration. There are choices that can be made in fabric, color and style, as per their requirements and budget. Elite customers can also opt for some of the top brands in blinds such as Bali, Hunter Douglas and Graber.

Wood Shutters For Your Home
It is believed that shutters originated in ancient Greece where they were made of marble and used for ventilation and heat. Wood shutters came into the picture when they were on their way to continental Europe. Shutter wood was a more practical agent and enabled the louvers to move giving more access to ventilation and more control against the elements. The original intent for the use of wood shutters was for protection from the elements as well as protection from enemies.
The first glass windows made were during the Elizabethan era however, because of their expense only the upper half of the window had glass and of course, only those people of means could afford to have glass windows. Shutters made of wood still protected the bottom half of the window.
It was interesting to learn that the original shutters were interior shutters rather than exterior. The window sills were very deep, too deep to accommodate the shutters thereby making them somewhat inaccessible and difficult to reach. Eventually the shutters made their way to America when they when brought here by Spanish colonials. They continued their original use as protection from the elements and enemies.
Although many kinds of shutter woods are used to make exterior shutters the preferred wood is Western Red Cedar. This wood is impervious to insects, that damage wood, fungus and it is naturally resistant to deterioration. Basically, Western Red Cedar is a naturally preserved wood and has a pleasant scent.
If you have an older house perhaps in the style of the Victorian, Elizabethan or Early American eras you may have or want shutters made in the style of those eras and of the same shutter wood used in those days. Resurrecting a bit of history with home accessories such as wood shutters is a great way to make your house the pride of your community. Of course, if you live in New England shutters would not be an addition to your community but they would be an integral part of the community as almost everyone has them even in newly constructed homes.
