Innovative Ways to Decorate with Window Curtains

Window curtains are a great way to add flavor to any room, but did you know there are many other ways you can use them to decorate and define your personal style? We have some new ideas to help you!

For those of you out there that have smaller living spaces, you know the challenge it can be to decorate and find storage. How about adding a few window panels on a rod or string and hanging it in room as a partition? It’s a great way to separate areas of the room and to add privacy. It also could be a unique way to hide storage, such as a cluttered shelving unit or a closet without a door. It’s also a cool way to add some visual interest to your living space. Another idea would be to take a curtain and use the fabric to cover a headboard in your bedroom. It would match the curtains you may have hanging at the window. And while you’re at it, you could cover some pillows as well. How about hanging a curtain as wall art? Cut it to your desired size and mount it in a frame. What a great statement piece and a wonderful way to decorate a bare wall.

Decorating Vertical Blinds

So you’ve just installed some new vertical blinds in your home, and while you’re happy with the privacy and shade they provide, you would still like to add a little more pizzazz to them with some curtains. Decorating them can sometime pose a challenge because they typically have hardware that many people like to conceal. Here are some tips:

First, you need to measure the entire length of the desired curtains from the top edge to the bottom edge. Cut a length of fabric to this length and then cut that piece in half width wise so that you have two panels of equal length. Next, turn under and hem at 1/8 inch each of the four sides of each panel. After this you will determine the length desired for the valance portion of the curtains. Cut two widths at this length and sew together with the right sides facing each other. Again, turn under and hem each edge of the valance. Next, sew any decorative trims you want to add to the upper edge of the right side of the valance and the upper edges of both right sides of the side panels.

You may need to install a curtain rod above the window, if there is not one already there. After this, go ahead and clip drapery rings onto the upper edge of the valance at evenly across the entire valance. You need to also clip the rings along the upper edges of the side panels. That’s it. Now all you need to do is slide the curtains onto the rod and space them evenly. And viola, beautiful window treatments to cover your new vertical blinds.

How to Choose the Right Blinds for Your Room

When decorating either a single room or an entire house, it is important to take your time and think about what type of window blinds are right for your project. A number of different factors can affect your decision. Since blinds come in many different styles and sizes, you seriously need to think about what type of look or affect you desire to achieve.

First, you need to consider your budget and measure your window. The size of your window may narrow down your options a little, but not by much. You should carefully plan how much money you want to spend. This is a very important step and should not be missed.

The next thing you should consider will be the main purpose of the window blinds. Are you mainly interested in keeping sunlight out of the room? Or are you more interested in something that will just control the light? And what about privacy?

Consider next what type of aesthetic feel you are attempting to convey. Do you want something elegant and regal? Or something a little more playful and light? How about a natural look? In any case, there are so many options available to you and it is easy to find the perfect custom blinds.

Spice Up Your Springtime with New Window Treatments

So spring is around the corner and it might be fun to do a little redecorating to spruce up your living space. What many people don’t realize is that a couple changes here and there can make a huge difference, while at the same time saving in cost. Try some of these ideas:

For one, think about changing out a slipcover on a couch or updating throw pillows. You can even switch out lampshades, vases or wall art relatively easy. Check thrift stores and estate sales for awesome finds.

Another easy idea involves changing your window treatments. There is a wide array of options when it comes to this. You could simply try new draperies. Custom draperies come in tons of varieties of colors that you can match to anything. As well, try out custom shades, like roller shades, roman shades, or sheer shades. Roman shades are excellent to put on doors because they’re orderly and neat at any level.

With spring and summer on the horizon, we love lighter, airier colors this time of year. If you have painted walls, try to do something subtle by adding sheer, white drapery panels. White, sheer reminds us of linen and the easier, breezier days of summer.

One last thing we love for this spring and summer are custom blinds, such as wood blinds. Evoking an adventurous, island feel, wood blinds look beautiful and are easy to pair with a number of colors.

With so many options for an easy update to your home décor, think about brightening up your world this spring with some of these small changes. They hopefully will put a little spring in your step again.
